A young man in Gulshan-e-Iqbal lost Rs0.9 million after three fraudsters deceived him into handing over his ATM card, police said on Sunday.
According to the complaint filed, the victim, who was standing in line to withdraw cash, was approached by a man claiming his own ATM card was not working and asking the youth to check it on the machine. When the victim entered the ATM room, two more suspects joined the first man.
The individual who had called the victim inside took the ATM card under the pretext of checking it, while the other two distracted him. The card was secretly pocketed, and the victim, unaware of the deception, entered his PIN into the machine. The scammers reportedly told the victim his card had jammed. Unaware of the ongoing fraud, the victim did not notice the unauthorised transactions until later. The fraudsters withdrew a total of Rs0.9 million between March 16 and 17.
