Six officials killed in attacks on two police vans in Karachi
MQM MPA escapes attack in North Karachi.
KARACHI:
At least police officials were killed in two attacks on their vans in Landhi No6 area of Karachi on Saturday evening, Express News reported.
Express News correspondent Nadeem Ahmed said that unidentified armed men first fired at the police van before lobbing a grenade at it. The blast destroyed the van and killed three police officials. Police recovered several casings of 9mm bullets near the attack site.
Ahmed added that the van was parked near Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) chief Afaq Ahmed’s house.
A second police van parked near the Landhi Hospital square was attacked with guns, in which three officials were shot dead.
The two attacks took place within minutes of each other.
Ahmed added that a passerby had also been injured in the attack.
The dead were shifted to Jinnah Hospital for post mortem.
Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah took notice of the attack on police officials and offered his condolences to their families. He said that their deaths will not go in vain.
MQM MPA attacked
In a separate incident, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) MPA Mohammad Kamran escaped an attack on his car in North Karachi.
Kamran was traveling along with his guard when his car was attacked by unidentified armed men. While Kamran escaped the attack unhurt, one his guards was reportedly injured.
