Sarfraz fifty saves PIA in President’s Trophy

Cheema, Shah claim five-wicket hauls against SBP.

In-form Sarfraz Ahmed scored a quick fire half-century on a pace-friendly pitch to help PIA put up a fighting total for SBP on day two of their President’s Trophy match at the National Stadium, Karachi.

In their second innings, PIA lost wickets at regular intervals before being given a lift by Sarfraz, who remained busy in scoring 53 off 49 balls with five boundaries as PIA were bowled out for 150 in 44.4 overs.

The Pakistan wicket-keeper batsman had scored 43 in his first-inning as well to continue his good run with the bat while Tabish claimed a five-wicket haul to take his tally to eight wickets in the match.

With a 106-run first-inning lead in hand, PIA were able to set a decent target of 257 runs for SBP, who were 17 for no loss at close of play.

Earlier in the morning, SBP faltered against the pace duo of Aizaz Cheema and Najaf Shah who both claimed five-wicket hauls to bowl out SBP for 119 in 27.4 overs despite resuming the day on 60 for one.

Ramiz Raja Jr top-scored with run-a-ball 65 laced with 13 boundaries.

Latif’s whirlwind ton helps PQA take lead

Skipper Khalid Latif scored a swashbuckling 140 off  116 balls, clubbing 12 sixes and nine boundaries to help PQA take a 98-run first-inning lead on their way to a total of 330 in reply to UBL ‘s first innings score of 232 at the Southend Club Stadium.


Khurram Manzoor chipped in with a 68-run knock while off-spinner Atif Maqbool continued his good form claiming six wickets to take his tournament’s tally to 48 wickets.

In reply, UBL were 86 for one but still trailed by 12 runs going into day three.

In another match, NBP cruised to 325 for seven in 82 overs against HBL, banking on a ton from Kamran Akmal who scored 106 while Nasir Jamshed (68) and Fawad Alam (51) chipped in with half-centuries.

Misbah rescues SNGPL from humiliation

Meanwhile, Misbahul Haq was once again instrumental in a rescue act, the Pakistan captain scored 101 studded with seven sixes and eight boundaries to help SNGPL to reach a decent score of 186 for nine in 65.3 overs against Wapda at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.

Azhar Attari took four wickets while Zulfiqar Babar got three scalps.
