KARACHI:

With helicopters hovering overhead, around 1,000 Rangers and anti-terrorism squad officials conducted a four-hour operation in Kunwari Colony and apprehended 20 suspects on Sunday.

This was the first grand operation against militant outfits in Karachi after a span of two months. In the past, a number of militants had been arrested and several bomb factories had been discovered from various parts of Manghopir, including Kunwari Colony, Pakhtunabad, Rasheedabad and Sultanabad. The operation started at around 8am within the limits of Pirabad police station of Orangi Town. Police personnel stood by as backup support for the Rangers. “It was an intelligence-based operation. We had received a tip-off about the arrival of new militants in the area. They were planning to carry out terror activities in the city,” said the Rangers’ official Brigadier Hamid while talking to The Express Tribune.

“We are sure about the arrest of at least four militants among the detainees.”
