PESHAWAR:
Two young men identified as Aqil Shah and Kamil Khan were arrested from Mattani and taken to an undisclosed location for further investigation, the Anti-Terrorist Squad said on Sunday.
Official sources told The Express Tribune they were detained because of their alleged links with militants. They said the boys were in the market where Khan runs a cosmetics shop which the commandoes raided and arrested them.
“These people have been arrested for their alleged links with militants and it is not the first time members from their families were picked up,” said an official. “Previously, Shah’s father and brother were arrested by security forces. They were released after eight months of captivity.”
He added there had been a sharp increase in militant activity in the area.
Rocket fired
A house was partially damaged when a rocket was fired in its direction in Masho Khel village on Saturday night.
Police said the artillery rocket was fired from several kilometres away near Khyber Agency. It struck Murad Khan’s house and damaged the boundary wall. Police said no loss of life was reported.
Burnt to ash
Another fire broke out at Auqaf Plaza in Andar Shahar Bazaar on Saturday night, destroying 15 shops. An official from Rescue 1122 said it took them three hours to extinguish the fire. He added that the entire market and its surrounding residential area was made of bricks and wood and thus was more susceptible to such accidents.
Earlier on the same day, 124 shops were burnt in a huge fire at the market. It took fire-fighters more than nine hours to get it under control.
