The Punjab Youth Festival 2014 will enter its third stage on Saturday (today).
The youth from 137 tehsils of the province will compete in various events.
The general public will be allowed to compete in individual, family and sports categories. In the education sector, students of elementary and secondary schools will compete at tehsil-level.
A total of 91 are planned. The sporting events will include arm-wrestling, athletics, basketball, hockey, karate, chess, table tennis, badminton, billiard, cricket using taped tennis ball and hard ball, kabaddi, mat and mud wrestling, tug of war, volleyball, bodybuilding, football, fun race and weightlifting.
Other events include naat khawani, qirat, cooking, horticulture, photography, poetry, family dressing, healthy baby, kitchen gardening, debate, essay writing, national songs, handicrafts, science models, cultural models, dress show and painting competitions.
In the rural sector various competitions like bull races, dog races, tippling/pigeon flying, agriculture produce, livestock produce, bull cart race, donkey cart race and horse race are planned.
Punjab Sports Board Director General Usman Anwar said registration for participation in tehsil games was open. He said entry and registration were free.
He said registration deadlines could be extended in accordance with local conditions. Winners of these competitions would earn a chance to compete at the next level.
Debate
On Friday, an English debate was held at Government Islamia High School in Ichhra. As many as 50 students from various schools competed.
Abdullah Junaid won the competition. Zohaib Nasir stood second and Faizan Iqbal took the third position.
In Urdu debates, Muhammad Saeed Latif was declared winner, Muhammad Hassan was placed second and Muhammad Ahmed was third.
Tayyaba Kiran won the debating competition among girls. Tooba Abdul Sattar and Khadija Mahmood were placed second and third respectively.
Tehsil games will conclude on January 26.
