Shahzaib, Latif strike centuries for PQA
Team draws high-scoring match with PIA in President’s Trophy.
KARACHI:
Explosive opener Shahzaib Hasan continued to make his presence felt as he and PQA teammate Khalid Latif scored whirlwind tons in a high-scoring draw against PIA in their President’s Trophy match at the Southend Club Stadium.
PIA resumed the day on 398 for seven while replying to PQA’s first-inning mammoth score of 500 and were bowled out for 449 in 137.5 overs. Shaharyar Ghani missed out on a double ton as he remained unbeaten on a fighting 194 which was laced with four sixes and 27 boundaries while Anwar Ali chipped in with 74.
Pacer Mohammad Sami and off-spinner Tabish Nawab picked up three wickets apiece.
In their second innings, PQA amassed 394 for six in just 59.4 overs before the game ended.
Hasan top-scored with 119 off just 64 deliveries as he slammed 10 sixes and six boundaries while Khalid Latif was equally destructive in his 60-ball 107, hitting six maximums and eight strikes to the fence.
Hasan had recently scored the quickest List A century this season in Pakistan’s domestic circuit off just 40 deliveries.
Asim Kamal also chipped in with a fluent 75 while Rafay Safdar ended up with four wickets in the mauling, conceding 127 runs.
Meanwhile, play was not possible in the other two matches of the event due to fog.
ZTBL were playing HBL at the PCB headquarters in Lahore while KRL-Wapda settled for draw courtesy of the weather in Faisalabad.
