Round-up: Red carpet 19th Critics’ Choice Movie Awards

A sleek knotted ponytail with a central parting completed Camila Alves's effortlessly glamorous look.

January 17, 2014

Our much awaited awards season kicked off with the Golden Globe Awards and now the 2014 Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards were held at The Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. Actors including Lupita Nyong’o, Amy Adams, Cate Blanchett, Margot Robbie and Camila Alves attended the ceremony in looks to die for. Below is our roundup of the fashion icons.

Camila Alves

She walked the ramp with her husband Mathew McConaughey and as always, they balanced out each other perfectly. Unlike the Golden Globes, they didn’t wear the same brand this time. Camila looked hot wearing a red sleeveless Paule Ka Spring 2014 Black Carpet collection gown featuring knot detail at the waist, which she styled with matching Oscar Tiye Malikah sandals and Martin Katz diamond stud earrings. A sleek knotted ponytail with a central parting completed her effortlessly glamorous look.

Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett looked regal as she arrived in a bottle-green T-shirt dress from Lanvin. She eschewed embellishments and showing skin and opted for a relaxed and laid back look. The sleeves, crew neck and loose cut created an outstanding alternative to the standard red carpet gown. It was a brave choice but we weren’t surprised to see Cate mix up classic looks with a directional aesthetic. The wide belt cleverly accentuating her curves, the colour against her pale skin, sleek blonde locks, and orange lip-colour gave her an insouciant air.

Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita may be new on our style radar but we can easily crown her as this year’s red-carpet diva. Her red-carpet record so far is pristine; she has managed to sweep us off our feet twice in a row. That unbelievably chic caped gown at the Golden Globes convinced us that this actor is a new trend setter, and this white hot Calvin Klein number totally blew us away and left us anticipating what comes next. The athletic neckline, geometric bodice cut-outs, perfectly complementary Kimberly Macdonald jewelry, silver metallic clutch and shimmering makeup was simply flawless.

Margot Robbie

Wolf of Wall Street star Margot Robbie sizzled on the red carpet and looked tantalizing in a black jumpsuit by Elie Saab. She stood out in the silhouette, which was a pleasant change in a sea of glamorous gowns. The long-sleeved garment with a back zipper gripped the Australian star’s toned physique and showed off her back with shear lace which added a sultry vibe to the ensemble. The otherwise racy get-up was gracefully contradicted by a demure high-cut neck.

Amy Adams

American Hustle star Amy Adams was a double winner for us; not only did she pick up the award for Best Actress in a Comedy, but she also won as one of the best dressed stars of the evening.  The actor glided down the red carpet in a vibrant Roland Mouret berry pink gown that draped beautifully on the red head’s slender frame. The black bow waistband accents prevented the dress from becoming too sugary sweet, and also added a flattering accent to her dress. With her hair in retro waves, everything about her get-up was absolutely stunning.
