KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) ordered on Wednesday to maintain the status quo in respect of the eviction of the sole member of the commission formed by the Supreme Court to investigate irregularities in the lands records.

Nazar Muhammad Leghari, the commission’s sole member, had gone to the court against the authorities for forcibly ejecting him from official accommodation in Bath Island.

The petitioner said he was also given an official accommodation in Bath Island where he could reside till the expiry of his job contract in October 2014. The authorities have, however, ordered him to vacate the residential premises much before the expiry of the contract.

Headed by Justice Irfan Saadat Khan, the bench issued notice to the chief secretary, services secretary, secretary for general administration and coordination and another for January 26. Till then, the parties were ordered to maintain status quo.
