Natural disasters: Training of Afghan rescuers discussed

Discussion revolves around possible areas of bilateral cooperation, other areas of mutual interest under possible MOU.

ISLAMABAD:
Director General Afghan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA), Dr. Daim Kakar called on chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) at Prime Minister’s Office. The Afghan delegation is on a three-day visit to Pakistan. Chairman NDMA Major General Muhammad Saeed Aleem gave his Afghan counterparts a briefing on the development of Pakistan’s disaster management system. The Afghan delegation similarly discussed the challenges they are confronted with while tackling both natural and manmade disasters. The ANDMA’s Technical Advisor Dr. Lais Mustafa also briefed NDMA officials on ANDMA’s development, monitoring and execution of policy, strategies and planning for disaster management. The discussion revolved around possible areas of bilateral cooperation including the training of Afghan DM officials, rescuers, master trainers, joint simulation exercises for common hazards and certain other areas of mutual interest under a possible MOU.
