Targeted attack: Traffic cop shot, critically injured
Swabi police official says two militants opened fire, injuring the constable severely before fleeing.
SWABI:
A traffic constable was shot at and injured by unidentified armed motorcyclists in the Link Road neighbourhood of Swabi city on Sunday morning.
Swabi police official Izhar Shah said the incident occurred around 10am when traffic police constable Nawaz Ali was on duty at Link Road, which connects Jehangira-Swabi Road and Swabi-Mardan Road. According to Shah, two militants parked their motorcycle near the constable and opened fire, injuring him severely before fleeing.
After the incident, heavy contingents of the police force rushed to the spot and blocked both roads for all traffic for more than 30 minutes, launching a search operation.
“It’s a crowded place and the police were facing difficulties in hunting down the militants,” added Shah.
The official explained that the injured constable was first shifted to nearby District Headquarters Hospital, Swabi and then referred to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar. A case was filed against unidentified militants.
On November 24, 2013, a traffic constable was gunned down by unidentified gunmen on the same road.
