KARACHI:
Pakistan’s Farhan Mehboob crashed out of El Gouna International Squash Open after a defeat at the hands of Egypt’s Omar Mosaad in a marathon second-round match.
Unseeded Farhan, who shocked tenth-seed Wael Al Hindi in the first round, carried on that form but lost the battle of stamina in a fully-stretched battle that lasted 95 minutes. The world number 31 from Peshawar dropped the first game 10-12 but bounced back to claim the second 11-9. He fell behind in the match again through an 11-6 loss in the third game but won the penultimate 11-5 to set up a deciding game.
However, it was the world number 22 local hero who showed no signs of exhaustion and outclassed his opponent 11-6 to seal a place in quarter-finals.
“I gave it my best but lost my rhythm at the last stage as my opponent was better than me,” said Farhan.
Meanwhile, Egypt’s top-seed Ramy Ashour, Gregory Gaultier of France and Englishman James Willstrop also won their respective matches to enter the last-eight of the tournament.
