LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday took notice of a press report regarding a man arrested for attacking his wife with acid.

The Rahim Yar Khan district and sessions judge has been directed to look into the matter and submit a detailed report regarding steps taken by the police with his comments.

According to the press report, Ajmal, a brother of the woman, had told the media that his sister had married Mohan, a resident of Iqbalabad, four years ago.

He said the couple had quarrelled often and Mohan had been beating his wife.

Ajmal said after they had another argument Mohan called his mother and told her to tie down his wife.

He said Mohan then threw acid on her. Ajmal said the woman was then locked up in a room until a neighbour informed him that he had heard her cry for help.

Ajmal said when he went to the house his brother in law and his mother initially refused to let him see his sister. He said they allowed him to take her to the hospital after he threatened to call police.

Doctors at Shaikh Zayed Hospital have said the woman had sustained 50 per cent burns and that her condition is critical.

Police said they had recorded the victim’s statement but her mother-in-law had gone missing.
