Lahore High Court on Thursday summoned the attorney general of Pakistan for legal assistance on a petition moved by employees of lower courts seeking special judicial allowance paid to the staff of the Lahore High Court.
The court adjourned the hearing till January 16.
The court is hearing a petition filed by Abdul Malik and others who say staff of the subordinate courts in the Punjab was performing duties similar to employees of Lahore High Court and were therefore entitled to same benefits.
The special allowance, equal to three times the initial substantive pay, in addition to judicial and utility allowances, is paid to judges in district judiciary and to the LHC staff but has not been extended to the staff of the subordinate judiciary.
