Opposition parties decide to field joint candidates for K-P local body polls
Another meeting of the opposition parties is scheduled for February 13.
Opposition parties in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa assembly have decided to field joint candidates in the upcoming local government elections.
The decision was made during a meeting of the 15 member committee of opposition members headed by Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazal group (JUI-F) Senator Ghulam Ali of on Tuesday. Leaders of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), JUI-F and Awami National Party (ANP) also participated in the meeting.
According to a press release issued by JUI-F secretary information Abdul Jalil Jan, another meeting of the committee will be hosted by the PPP on February 13 to further discuss a line of action for the elections after taking their provincial leadership in confidence.
It was also decided in the meeting that the parties will consult their district leadership and compile reports for fielding joint candidates.
Of the three opposition parties who will form the coalition, the JUI-F and the ANP have gone to court in K-P against the PTI led government's local body law.
