The government has decided to stop payment of deputation allowance to civil servants posted on projects, companies, commissions, programme management units and development programs in the province
The civil servants have been receiving deputation allowance at the rate of 20 per cent of their basic pay subject to a maximum of Rs6,000 per month, an official of the Finance Department said.
According to a notification issued by the Finance Department last week, it was decided that the posting of civil servants on deputation-basis in projects, units, commissions and companies registered under the Company Act is not covered by Rule 15 of the Punjab Civil Servants Rules 1974 and Deputation Policy 1998 of the government.
The notification said all such postings would be considered routine transfers and officers would no longer receive the deputation allowance.
The policy would also apply to officers of the federal government and officers of other provinces. The terms and conditions for those serving in various projects, units, commissions and companies would remain unchanged till the expiry of their tenure.
In case of extension in their appointment, however, they would not be entitled to deputation allowance.
The Finance Department has circulated the new policy guidelines to all administrative secretaries, principal secretary to governor, chief minister and all heads of attached departments, commissioners, district coordination officers and Lahore High Court registrar for implementation.
