KARACHI:

A mass wedding took place in one of Lyari’s most volatile neighbourhoods, Agra Taj, on Sunday evening.

The event was attended by Abdullah Hussain Haroon, Pakistan’s former ambassador to the United Nations. Several people attended the event at Kalri Ground located on Jumah Baloch Road. The arrangements of dowry - which included furniture and Rs25,000 in cash - for each couple was arranged by Sanghar Jamaat Khana.

Initially, the wedding of the 12 couples was being delayed due to a lack of financial resources. Most of the families living in such densely populated area cannot afford to make all the necessary arrangements for the wedding. Last year, a mass wedding of seven couples was also arranged at the same venue.
