Explosion averted: 5kg explosive device found in Charsadda
The Charsadda police foiled a terror bid on Sunday afternoon when they defused a five-kilogramme explosive device planted in union council Mandani, Charsadda.
An official of the Mandani police station said residents informed police of a suspicious tin canister along the road near Amirabad bridge, after which police officials reached the site and cordoned off the area. The bomb disposal squad (BDS) arrived afterwards and successfully defused the explosive device. BDS officials said the bomb was remote-controlled and could have caused damage to life and property if it had detonated.
A search operation was launched following the incident but no arrests were made till this report was filed.
Meanwhile, a girl was killed and 10 others injured, when a van collided with a rickshaw in Utmanzai area of Charsadda on Saturday. Drivers of both vehicles were taken into custody by the police.
