KARACHI: KRL’s Kaleemullah struck a hat-trick as the side crushed debutants Lyallpur FC 3-0 in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) tie at the Railway Stadium on Friday.

He was once again KRL’s leading force as they landed their 10th win in the ongoing season. The defending champions took an early lead in the sixth minute to lead 1-0 at the interval.

Kaleemullah struck again in the 48th minute and sealed the victory in the 74th.

KRL maintain their sixth position with 35 points after playing 17 matches in the league. The team have drawn five matches and lost two this season.

“We need to win the title so that we can achieve more in the international circuit,” Kaleemullah told The Express Tribune.

“If we get through the first round of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President’s Cup this year after winning the PPFL, we can also qualify to play the AFC Champions League, which features the best club teams in Asia.”

Meanwhile, Navy climbed to eighth spot as a result of a walk-over against ZTBL in their match at the MFTA Ground. ZTBL have forfeited their remaining nine fixtures in the league due to financial reasons.

In today’s fixtures, KESC will play Pak-Afghan Clearing Agency (Paca). The former were last year’s runner-up team, and they have dominated the on-going season so far in the first and second leg.

“We can win the league this time,” said a KESC official. “We’ve performed well and it will come down to winning against even the smallest teams in the third leg.”

They are currently sitting in third place with 39 points.
