KARACHI:

The family of the 23-year-old twins of Lyari, Haider and Jamal Qadri, observed the first death anniversary of Jamal, who was killed in an attack, which Haider barely managed to survive.

Family members, relatives and friends attended the anniversary in Karachi while Haider is still in hiding due to fear and mental trauma. “I talked to Haider today and we both remembered Jamal,” the twin’s father, Dr Abdul Ghafoor Qadri, told The Express Tribune. “Jamal’s loss is very painful for all of us. He was very close to his mother who is still unable to come to terms with his death,” he added.

The twins were shot on January 2, last year, as they were making their way to the Government Commerce College in Sultanabad, where they were supposed to sit an exam. They set off at around noon from their house in Agra Taj Colony in their car. As they stopped at a puncture shop to have the tyres inflated, the assailants closed in from behind. Jamal was shot dead on the spot as he was hit in the head and the other bullet pierced Haider’s neck, seriously injuring him.

The family left the area after the incident and has never returned. Haider has even left the city out of fear of another attack. “I hope my wife and son will recover and will live a normal life but it is hard to forget a 23-year-old son,” Dr Qadri wept.
