Paying tribute: Speakers at SALU praise Dr Tanveer Abbasi

The scholar was one of the biggest contributors to literature in Sindh, claim speakers.

SUKKUR: Dr Tanveer Abbasi Corner, Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) in Khairpur organised an extensive lecture titled ‘Life, Works and Achievements of Dr Tanveer Abbasi.’

In her presidential address, SALU vice chancellor Prof Dr Parveen Shah said that Abbasi’s personality was the centre of his literary work. “He was an intellectual and played an important role in the establishment of SALU as well as Radio Pakistan, Sachal Chair and Sachal Academy, Khairpur.”



Dr Shah added that Dr Abbasi’s poetry and literary work are a guideline for the youth of Sindh and should be hailed as a revolutionary for his ideas and actions. The vice chancellor also lauded the work of Dr Tanveer Abbasi Corner under the patronage of Prof Ayaz Gul.

Renowned scholar and Sindhi Language Authority secretary Taj Joyo said that Dr Abbasi was a romantic poet who believed in optimism and change. Joyo added that Dr Abbasi fought against redundant traditions and exploitation.

“For Dr Abbasi, the pen was a symbol of change,” the scholar said. “He helped literature in Sindh and established the Jamiat-e-Shura-e-Sindh and the Hyderabad branch of Sindhi Adbi Sangat.” Faculty of Social Sciences and Arts dean Prof Dr Syed Ahmed Hussain Shah was also full of praise for Dr Abbasi. “He always promoted religious harmony and tolerance,” Dr Shah added.
