Four factory workers, who were burned in a boiler explosion on Thursday, succumbed to their injuries at a hospital on Monday, taking the death toll to eight.
The deceased were identified as Kamran Ishaq of Chak 30-JB, Abdus Sattar of Chak 73-JB and Robin Mashi of Gulshan-i-Aziz Colony and Ghafoor of Chiniot.
Police said a boiler at Dawood Export Mills in Bawa Chak on Sargodha Road caught fire on late Thursday night.
Two workers, later identified as Zahoor Ahmad of Samana Chak and Sohail Ali of Mansoorabad, had suffered burns and died on the spot.
Fifteen others were injured and taken to Allied Hospital, where 12 of them were said to be in critical condition. Ghulam Rasool and Sharafat Ali, both residents of Chak 225-RB, Malkhanwala, died a few hours later.
Dr Kareem Bakhsh, duty doctor at the emergency ward, told The Express Tribune that of the nine injured at the hospital, four were in a critical condition.
The Nishatabad station house officer said that an FIR had been registered against the mill owner and the administration under Sections 322 and 337 (causing death) of Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of Assistant Sub Inspector Inayatullah.
