LHC declares delimitation laws in Punjab to be illegal

The court announced that a new law should be created and implemented to tackle the issue of delimitation.

LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday announced that it has declared Section 8 and 9 of the Punjab Local Government Act 2013 to be illegal, Express News reported.

Sections 8 and 9, which fall under the ‘local areas’ chapter of the Act, are related to the delimitation of Union Councils and the delimitation of wards in Municipal Committees respectively.


Lahore High Court’s full bench gave the final verdict.

The court announced that a new law should be created and implemented to tackle the issue of delimitation.

The Election Commission has been asked by the LHC to carry out new delimitation of constituencies for the local government elections in Punjab.
