Workers had staged a protest rally at Zila Council Chowk, were demanding better wages and benefits.

FAISALABAD:

The police on Monday registered a case against 150 people on charges of public nuisance after they staged a protest rally at Zila Council Chowk.

About 200 workers from the power loom sector and brick kiln sector had staged a demonstration against factory owners in front of the secretariat of the local government (LDG) on Saturday.

They were demanding better wages and benefits.

The protestors had blocked the University Road and marched to the office of the Labour Department chanting slogans for enforcement of labour laws and government notifications of enhanced wages. A police team negotiated with the protesting workers who dispersed peacefully.

Later, the Civil Lines police registered a case against 150 unidentified men on a complaint moved by Constable Hamid Mukhtar for creating public nuisance.

Civil Lines SHO said raids were being made to arrest office bearers of labour organisations.
