Police have finalised its security plan for New Year's Eve in Karachi and have asked the provincial government to ban pillion riding in the province.


All routes to Sea View will be blocked on December 31 while shops, markets, petrol pumps and hotels located on these routes will also be closed.


"Only the residents of DHA will be allowed to access the blocked roads," said Clifton division SP Muhammad Nadeem while talking to The Express Tribune. "We will allow them to use these roads after performing snap checking."

The roads will be scanned by the bomb disposal squad while surveillance cameras have been installed at Sea View. Police have banned aerial firing, removal of silencers from motorcycles and the use of weapons on New Year's Eve. Those found violating the bans will be arrested.

To tackle the ever present threat of terrorism , Nadeem said, appropriate steps have been taken to avoid any untoward incident, adding that fireworks have also been banned.

"We will take strict action against anyone found violating the rules," he warned.
