Charsadda explosion: Blast kills mother, two minor children
DPO says blast, caused by gas leak, also injured husband.
CHARSADDA:
A mother and her two children were killed in an explosion in Wardaga area of Charsadda in the early hours of Monday.
DPO Shafiullah Khan said the blast was caused by a gas leak at Asif Khan’s house at around 4:30am. Khan, a rickshaw driver by profession, lost his wife Gulmeena and sons, eight-year-old Umar and six-year-old Hamza, while he and another minor son were injured.
“The house was destroyed, killing three and injuring two members of the family,” the official confirmed, adding nearby houses were also damaged by the impact.
Residents launched a rescue operation on their own, and pulled out the dead and injured from the debris. The injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital where their condition was stated to be stable. Asif was suffering from shock, the police official said.
The neighbourhood was engulfed by an air of sorrow after funerals of the deceased family members were held. Shafiullah said according to bomb disposal squad officials, no evidence of a rocket attack or explosives was found from the site and termed reports of a rocket attack as baseless.
