Rawalpindi division: Almost 8,500 candidates file papers

Total of 2,311 candidates return papers for various seats in 46 union councils in Rawalpindi municipal corporation.

Although political parties are still not sure about the fate of local bodies (LB) elections, aspiring candidates across the district have submitted nomination papers to contest elections slated to be held on January 30.


A source in LB office said as many as 8,474 candidates have submitted papers for contesting elections on various seats of municipal committees, the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation, the Murree Municipal Corporation and Rawalpindi District Council.


The source said some 467 candidates submitted papers for the municipal committees of Kahuta, Kallar Syedan, Gujar Khan, Taxila and Kotli Sattian.

A total of 2,311 candidates returned papers for various seats in the 46 union councils (UCs) of included in the Rawalpindi municipal corporation.

For Murree Municipal Corporation, 548 candidates submitted their papers, while another 5,148 candidates will be contesting for 120 union councils.

Each UC will have 13 members including one woman, a peasant, a non-Muslim and a youth representative.
