KARACHI:

The Pakistan team management has added young fast-bowler Bilawal Bhatti to the Test squad ahead of the series against Sri Lanka in the UAE.

Bhatti, who was a part of the One-Day International team, was not named in the 15-man Test squad that was initially announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) selection committee last week.

A PCB official confirmed that the team management wanted to include the fast-bowler to bring depth into pace attack. Pakistan already had four quicks – Umar Gul, Junaid Khan, Rahat Ali and Mohammad Talha – before Bhatti’s inclusion. The three-match Test series will start in Abu Dhabi on December 31.

@Jahangir, I agree but that is not the point. Why select those who have no chance of playing in the final 11. Your first choice in terms of fast bowling will be Gul and Junaid. If Gul is not played, then they will more likely play Talha. Bhatti will likely be at the bottom of barrel and won't get a chance to play in this series. I rather play him domestic matches for further development then to warm the bench. Another example: Harris Sohail, who keeps performing in domestic matches, but never gets a chance to play in the final11 because they end up selecting too many players in the line up.
