Faisalabad collect more gold in Punjab Games

Faisalabad dominated the fourth day of the Punjab Games as they won the cycling and badminton events on Sunday.

Faisalabad’s Ahsan Abbas won his second gold medal yesterday in the 30-kilometre cycling road race. He covered the distance in 56 minutes 17 seconds to ensure an overall top position for his team.

His teammate Waheed Ahmed secured silver in the race with a difference of 10 seconds, while Gujranwala’s Hafiz Tahir took the bronze medal.

Faisalabad clinched the cycling championship with 62 points, while Lahore finished second with 59 points. Gujranwala bagged the bronze medal with 42 points.

“Faisalabad riders performed very well,” the Punjab Cycling Association official told The Express Tribune. “They were careful on the road and technically they outpaced other cyclists. It was a good show. Our cycling event concluded with the road race and people really appreciated the event.”


Meanwhile, Faisalabad won the men’s badminton final to add another gold medal to their tally. They defeated Lahore 2-0, while their women’s team lifted the trophy for the event when they defeated Sahiwal 2-0.

The badminton women’s doubles final will be played on Monday, where Faisalabad will play against DG Khan, and Lahore will play Rawalpindi.

In other events, Lahore took the gold medal in the women weightlifting championship with 65 points. Gujranwala finished second with 50 points and Rawalpindi secured the third place with 32 points. The event featured 31 women weightlifters from the province.

Lahore also won the women’s basketball event as Amber Ayub scored 17 points, while Rabiya Imtiaz scored 12 points.
