Public services: ‘Healthcare system to be overhauled’
Khawaja Salman Rafique says religious leaders must be taken on board to control the menace of over-population.
LAHORE:
Advisor to Chief Minister on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique on Saturday said the success model of Islamic countries that had been able to control population would be replicated in Pakistan.
He was addressing a two-day symposium at the Children Hospital and the Institute of Child Health. Rafique said that religious leaders must be taken on board to control the menace of over-population. He said that district headquarter hospitals, tehsil headquarter hospitals, rural health centres and basic health units were being upgraded to reduce the load on city hospitals.
Rafique said that the government understood that it could not get rid of quacks till doctors were posted in rural healthcare centres. He said Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had a vision for the healthcare system in the province in which the system would be overhauled to make it service oriented. He said the powers of the provincial Health Department would be devolved at the directorate general health service and district offices levels.
He said that a summary for the constitution of a committee to post health EDOs in districts had been moved.
