ECP summons 12 more legislators
Twelve legislators from the national and Punjab assemblies have been summoned to defend their academic credentials.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has summoned 12 legislators in the fake degrees case on Thursday.
Three MNAs including Humayun Aziz Kurd, Maulvi Agha Muhammad and Javed Hasnain have been summoned.
Nine members of the Punjab Assembly who have been summoned for the hearing include Shafiq Gujar, Waseem Afzal, Safdar Gill, Shumaila Rana, Samuel Kamran, Farah Deeba and Majida Zaidi.
The ECP has been hearing fake degrees cases for the past few weeks, calling on legislators to defend their academic credentials.
On Monday, the initial hearing of cases pertaining to public representatives' fake or invalid degrees turned into a fiasco as only seven of the 15 accused summoned appeared before the Election Commission of Pakistan.
The ECP had announced that the hearings would be over by October 25, but given the response from legislators, it is unlikely that the commission can complete them within the stipulated time-frame.
