The Election Commission of Pakistan on Friday extended the deadline for the submission of nomination papers for the local government elections by eight hours. A notification in this regard was issued to the district administration.
According to the schedule, the nomination papers for local government elections could be submitted from December 22 to 27.
The deadline for filing the papers was 4pm on Friday, the election commission extended the deadline till 12am (midnight).
The Lahore district coordination office issued a statement saying 1,349 applications had been received by December 26. According to the election schedule, objections can be filed by December 29 and the notices to the objections will be published by January 28.
The scrutiny of nomination papers will commence from December 30 till January 4. Appeals will be received on January 6 and 7.
The appeals will be disposed from January 8 till 11. Candidates can withdraw nominations by January 12. The final list of contesting candidates and their symbols will be published on January 13. The polling will take place on January 30 and results will be announced by returning officers by February 2.
