At risk?: DPPs serving in home districts in violation of orders

DG Public Prosecutions Asmatullah Gandapur says he has not received any notification in this regard.

PESHAWAR:

Several government officials at Basic Pay Scale (BPS) 17 and above continue to serve in their home districts despite clear directions issued by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government to do so otherwise.

A notification issued by the provincial government on November 11 made it clear that the chief minister has directed officers of BPS-17 and above to not be posted in their respective districts of domicile. However, it was learnt a number of District Public Prosecutors (DPPs) continue to defy government orders.

When contacted, Director General Public Prosecutions Asmatullah Gandapur told The Express Tribune he had recently joined and had not received any notification in this regard. “Any such directions are not in my knowledge. If a notification reaches my office, we will obviously comply,” said Gandapur.

Other officials from the home department said threats to the DPPs’ lives were the main reason why they could not be transferred. They added many are engaged with anti-terrorism courts and cannot move to other districts immediately.
