FAISALABAD:

Electronic libraries would be introduced at all government schools in the district, Education Executive District Officer (EDO) Shahida Sohail said on Monday.

Talking to The Express Tribune, she said the programme would initially be launched at bigger government schools in the district. Library staff would be trained in handing electronic inventories, she said. Training workshops would begin on December 28 at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Chak 202-RB, Gatti.

She said computer studies teachers will also be included in the training.

Staff would be trained in maintaining computerised record of the books, journals, pamphlets, and newspapers.

Sohail said online versions of thousands of books in the libraries of government schools would be made available in the electronic libraries. A database and control room would also be established at the EDO’s office. Officials concerned would monitor the electronic system and ensure fair and free utilisation of available reading material. Sohail said once electronic libraries came online, more computers would be provided to schools.
