SUKKUR:
Divers from the Pakistan Navy joined divers on Tuesday to look for the bodies of two women who drowned in the Nara Canal on Sunday. They managed to fish out the body of one of the women, Kulsoom.

Kulsoom, 13, and Mueen Shambhani had been working in the cotton fields, after which they went to the canal to wash up. Mueen slipped and fell into the water, catching hold of Kulsoom’s arm, pulling her in too.

Residents rushed to their rescue but were unable to find them in the waning light. A proper rescue was launched on Monday but neither of the women’s bodies could be found till Tuesday. The search for Mueen’s body continues.

A similar incident occurred on October 7, when a boat carrying a family capsized in the canal. Nine people drowned and the bodies of two victims have yet to be found.

Nara Canal is the biggest canal connected to Sukkur Barrage. According to the wild life department, the canal is a natural habitat of crocodiles.
