Former Sindh CM allowed to visit ailing daughter

Immigration officials had earlier barred Liaquat Jatoi from flight on the grounds that his name was on the ECL.

KARACHI:
Former Sindh chief minister Liaquat Ali Khan Jatoi was permitted to proceed to Dubai for ten days by a division bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) on Tuesday.

The bench was moved by Jatoi against immigration officials who barred him from boarding a UAE-bound flight on October 17 on grounds that his name was on the Exit Control List (ECL).

The counsel for Jatoi submitted that the he was being subjected to political victimisation as he belongs to the opposition group.

He also cited a number of petitions earlier heard by the bench and relief given after Jatoi was allegedly falsely implicated in cases of criminal conduct.

The counsel submitted that the petitioner was proceeding to Dubai to visit ailing daughter but was not allowed.

No notice or information was given to him regarding placing of his name on the ECL, the counsel added seeking permission of the court for a short visit to Dubai.

The court later allowed the request and in its order said that the petitioner can proceed on October 20 but should return on October 29.

The court ordered that copies of the order should be sent to the immigration officials as well as to deputy attorney general.
