PESHAWAR:
With preparations for local government (LG) elections under way in the province, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) leadership has vowed not repeat past mistakes while distributing party tickets.

The party has decided to take suggestions from committees formed at tehsil, district and provincial levels. These will comprise president, general secretary and runners-up of these posts in the intra-party polls, along with female representatives of the areas and women legislators in the provincial assembly.

“Once the LG polls are held, powers will be devolved to those elected in the local body elections while provincial assembly members will start performing their core duty – legislation,” said PTI’s K-P President Azam Swati during a party meeting in the city on Friday.

The meeting was also attended by Adviser to the Chief Minister on Transport Yaseen Khalil along with PTI K-P General Secretary Khalid Masood and other cabinet members who discussed the upcoming local body polls in detail.

Azam Swati assured members of the party’s provincial cabinet that workers across the province will not be ignored and tickets will be distributed on merit. He added three members of the provincial assembly have expressed interest in quitting the parliament to contest the LG polls.

“Party doors are open for all those who have an unblemished past,” said Swati, urging party workers and cabinet members to wage a war against corruption.
