KARACHI:
The Crime Investigation Department’s (CID) anti-terrorism unit claimed to have arrested six target killers on Thursday.

While addressing a press conference, CID Chief Raja Umer Khattab revealed that these target killers were affiliated with Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Sunni Tehreek, a gang in Lyari and an undisclosed political group.

Two target killers belonging to Lashkar-e-Jhangvi were apprehended during a raid near Khuda ki Basti in Surjani Town. “The target killers belong to the Bengali community and have been identified as Muhammad Asif who goes by the two aliases of Abdullah and Zalzalla, and Shahdat Hussain,” said Khattab. “The two already have a criminal record, having just finished a two-year sentence earlier this year.”

The two men made a group in jail with other noted criminals such as Yassin, Zain, Shahadat, Hazrat Ali and Farooq and had recently been committing bank robberies, the officer claimed. “They were wanted for  murdering Munir Hussain and his wife near Saleem centre in New Karachi on November 25,” he added. “Hussain’s house was the starting point of a small religious procession and the group had threatened them against it.”

Separately, CID arrested three target killers - two belonging to Sunni Tehreek and one belonging to a Lyari gang - in two different raids.

“Adnan, who is a target killer associated with the Sunni Tehreek, was arrested from Baldia Town, New Karachi while Shadab Ahmed Khan was arrested near the Civil hospital,” the officer added.

Khattab said that Adnan and Khan were allegedly involved in six target killings and several cases were registered against them in different police stations.

Umair aka Immli, who was arrested from Lyari, is affiliated with the Wassiullah Lakho gang and allegedly involved in several target killing cases.

A target killer, Muhammad Kamran aka Kammo, belonging to a political party was also arrested from Baldia Town. Police found two pistols in his possession.
