Removing encroachments: Two labourers injured as roof caves in
The injured were identified as Niaz and Shafique, and were taken to Ayub Medical Complex.
ABBOTTABAD:
Two construction workers were injured when the ceilings of two shops collapsed on them in Supply Bazaar on Thursday afternoon.
During the ongoing operation against encroachments on Mansehra Road, district authorities had marked several shops found guilty of encroachment. The owners were asked to demolish the illegally extended portions; otherwise their entire shop would be bulldozed.
Complying with the orders, shop owners initiated the process on their own. According to the police and witnesses, construction workers were demolishing the cemented roof of two shops when it caved in. The labourers were buried under the resulting debris. Their colleagues rushed to the site to help, and pulled them out using tractors and other construction machinery within a few minutes.
The injured were identified as Niaz and Shafique, and were taken to Ayub Medical Complex where they are stated to be in critical condition.
