Healthcare: Polio campaign in Gadap Town ends today

Dr Naz revealed that up to one million children will be administrated polio vaccine in the 4-day anti-polio campaign.

The provincial government’s Expended Programme on Immunisation (EPI) deputy project manager, Dr Duray Naz, has said that the polio campaign being conducted in all high-risk union councils (UC) of Karachi will conclude today.


Dr Naz revealed that up to one million children will be administrated polio vaccine in the four-day special polio eradication campaign. The campaign will be focused in Gadap, Baldia, North Nazimabad and Keamari towns. The provincial government has assigned a police official with each polio team to avoid any untoward incidents. Dr Naz stressed that all children under five years of age must be vaccinated at all costs.

According to the data obtained from the provincial health department’s additional secretary, a total of 75 polio cases have been reported across Pakistan since January this year. Out of these, seven cases were reported in Sindh, six in Punjab, 10 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and 52 cases were detected in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.
