PESHAWAR:

Stori da Pakhtunkhwa awards were presented to senior actors and singers at Nishtar Hall for their contribution to performing arts.

The culture show was organised by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sports and Culture Forum on Tuesday. This was the first such show organised by the PTI – the district leadership of the party, singers and artistes from around the province were invited to participate.

Awards were given to Pushto television actor Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah, Said Rahman Shino, Noshaba, Zahida Tanha, Hindku television actor Iftikhar Qaisar, and Agha Zulfi.

While many Pushto singers have been far from the limelight in the last few years, they were centre stage at the event. Performances by Mashooqa Sultan, Aqal Meena and Ustad Ahmad Gul were well received by the audience on Tuesday.

Iftikhar Qaiser, known for both comic and serious roles, entertained viewers with several pieces. “Many famous Pushto singers have gone unappreciated and their names have been forgotten but holding shows or honouring them with awards will help highlight their contributions,” shared Qaiser.

Mashooqa Sultan, one of the veteran singers present, said: “I appreciate the efforts of the government to bring forgotten artistes to life. The government should take steps for the wellbeing of people associated with performing arts.”

Khalida Yasmeen and Said Rehman Shino, who are famous for their comic routines, presented a few skits at the event while débutant Izhar Mehmood also entertained the audience.

Farah Khan enthralled and revived the ‘Pukhtun spirit’ by singing her famous number Za Pukhtun da Pekhawar yam. The evening ended gracefully with a number of Hinko and Urdu songs.
