Weapons supplier: Suspect remanded for jail official’s murder
Sajjad admitted before the judge that the weapons used in Niazi’s murder were supplied by him.
KARACHI:
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) remanded on Tuesday a suspect into police custody for his alleged involvement as a weapons supplier to the men who killed a former deputy jail superintendent, his brother and several others in Saddar in 2006.
An in-charge of the ATC remanded the suspect, Chaudhry Sajjad, to police custody till December 28 after he was produced before the court. Karachi central prison’s deputy superintendent Amanullah Niazi, his brother Inspector Habibullah Niazi, head constable Akhtar, police constable Sabir, driver Shafi and a passerby Azeem were killed while several others were injured in the attack near Electronics Market in June, 2006.
Following the attack, a case, No.267/06, under sections (punishment for premeditated murder), 324 (attempt to commit murder), 353 (criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty), 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act was registered in the Preedy police station in 2006.

The Crime Investigation Department police have arrested Sajjad and seized explosive material and an unlicenced pistol from his possession in an encounter in New Karachi on December 13.The police said that Sajjad was wanted in the cases relating to attempted murder, possessing explosive substance and illicit weapons in several other cases.
