LAHORE:

Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Riaz Hussain Pirzada said on Monday that the authority to design and develop school curricula would be handed back to federal authorities before the 18th Amendment was passed.

“Under the 18th Amendment, the curriculum authority was devolved and funds were also transferred to provinces. The decision is going to be reversed after consultation with the provinces,” he said. He was talking to newsmen at the Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education.

He said it was in the larger interest of education that curriculum affairs were looked after by the federal government. He said a summary in this regard would be sent to the prime minister.

“Management of school and college sports should be assigned to the HEC,” he said. The minister said schools had served as a nursery in the past but recently they had not been producing sportsmen recently.
