Energy resource: ‘Chashma to join grid by 2016-17’
The generation of electricity will start after the completion of C-3 and C-4
ISLAMABAD:
In an effort to resolve the energy crisis of the country, officials announced that the Chashma Nuclear Power Project Unit-III(C-3) will be connected to the National Grid in 2016 followed by the Chashma Nuclear Power Project Unit-IV (C-4) in 2017. The generation of electricity will start after the completion of C-3 and C-4, initiated in 2010 and scheduled to be completed in 91 months. Construction of these power plants will help to meet the target of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) for generating 8800 megawatts by the year 2030 through nuclear power reactors. Chashma Nuclear Power Plant’s reactors and other facilities are being built and operated by the PAEC with Chinese support. In November 2006, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) approved an agreement with the PAEC for new nuclear power plants to be built in the country with Chinese assistance.
