Public concern: Wasa chairman warns of action over uncovered manholes

Orders SDOs to ensure cleanliness at disposal stations, filter plants and sewerage lines.

GUJRANWALA: The Water and Sanitation Authority (Wasa) chairman, Nawaz Chohan, on Saturday issued orders to cover all manholes in the city and change broken lids. He was heading a Wasa management meeting.

Chauhan ordered Wasa workers to ensure cleanliness at disposal stations, filter plants and sewerage lines. He said water disposal and supply systems should be monitored regularly to avoid any problems.

Wasa Managing Director Khalid Basheer Butt, Wasa executive engineers and sub divisional officers, and MPA Ashraf Ansari were also present at the meeting.



The chairman said SDOs should ensure that sewer-men were performing their duties responsibly.

He said uninformed and habitual absences should not be ignored.

He said supervisor concerned would be held accountable, if any accident was reported to have been caused due to an open-manhole.

Separately, Wasa employees union distributed cheques of Rs255,000 among employs on account of marriage grant and funeral expenses. The ceremony was presided over by the chairman.

Wasa Labour Union president Naseeruddin Humayun Malik, the MD, Wasa Secretary Mastay Khan and AlRai Foundation chairman Haji Anwar distributed cheques among the workers.
