Abuse: Child maid beaten-up ‘for jewel theft’

Police said girl’s parents had filed a complaint against her employer.

GUJRANWALA:
A nine-year-old domestic worker was beaten up by her employer, who police said had suspected her of stealing 40 grams of gold jewellery. Police said the girl’s parents, residents of Kacha Khayali Road, had filed a complaint against Muhammad Asif, a Muhammad Noorwala Street resident. On Sunday, they said, when they went to pick their daughter from work, they found out that Asif had beaten her with a stick for allegedly stealing 40 grams of gold jewellery from his cupboard. They said she told them that Asif had hanged her upside down to a ceiling fan. She said he and his wife beat her. Sabzi Mandi SHO Nawaz Sial said the girl and her mother had been issued permission by the magistrate to get a medico-legal certificate.
