KARACHI:

A batch of 250 students, trained as ‘Physician’s Assistant’, will be conferred BSc degrees at the convocation ceremony of the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) on December 18.

The graduating students have completed the three-year professional and academic programme followed, by a one-year internship.

The specialised academic programme leads to careers in the fields of urology, nephrology, transplantation, intensive care, laboratory sciences and radiology.

The most redeeming part of the programme was that no economic burden was imposed on the students. The SIUT felt that outstanding students failed to pursue their education due to high commercial costs of medical education.

In 2008, the Higher Education Commission had granted the SIUT the status of a degree awarding institution. So far, the school has produced 106 male graduates and 146 females.
