Service structure: Post-graduate training rules for doctors relaxed
FCPS-II trainees will be posted to various district headquarters hospitals.
LAHORE:
The Health Department has revised its postgraduate recruitment rules after a meeting with a joint delegation of training of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), the General Cadre Doctors Association (GCDA) and the Young Doctors Association (YDA).
Earlier, the department had maintained for the 2,000 newly-recruited medical officers could not allowed to be enrol in the postgraduate training at teaching hospitals.
The policy was revised three days after the Young Doctors Association (YDA) gave a protest call after its general council meeting on Tuesday.
Advisor to Chief Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique said on Saturday the government had decided “in principle” that the newly recruited doctors studying for FCPS Part-II would be posted at district headquarters hospitals in Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Sargodha, DG Khan, Sahiwal and Rahim Yar Khan to complete their training.
“The hospitals have been given the status of teaching institutions. They are attached to newly-established medical colleges,” Rafique said. He said the government was trying to resolve the problems faced by doctors as fast as possible. He said agreements made with doctors’ associations were being implemented.
He said administrative measures were being taken to ensure speedy promotion of doctors.
On Friday, Special Health Secretary Babar Hayat Tarar had told a representative of doctors’ association that in the next two months, the department planned to promote the eligible doctors to higher posts. He said between December 21 and December 31, the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meetings will be held daily to take decisions.
The meeting decided that doctors regularised in service in 2009-10 be directed to submit their ACRs by December 20 to be considered for promotion.
The meeting also decided that doctors who have completed 12 years of regular service in grade 17/18 asked to provide their ACRs to the Health Department by December 20 for promotion into grade 19.
