LAHORE:

A Pakistan Railway ticket-checker died on Saturday allegedly from a beating by four students travelling without tickets.

SHO Muhammad Jabbar said four students from Sheikhupura Commerce College travelling to Lahore on board Sargodha Express without tickets were asked by the ticket-checker, Rana Shabbir to show their tickets.

He said the students got into an argument with Shabbir, insisting that they could travel without them.

Jabbar said when Shabbir insisted, the students beat him. Police were called and one of the students, Khurram Shehzad was arrested. His three friends managed to flee when the train stopped at the Lahore station. Shabbir and Shehzad were taken to a police station where Shabbir, 57, fainted. He was shifted to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The SHO said a case under Section 324 of the PPC had been registered against Khurram Shehzad and one Muhammad Abid.
