The Paramedic Association, health department officials and teachers from Khyber Agency called off a boycott of the polio vaccination drive on Saturday and resumed their duties.

The decision was taken during a meeting with political administration officials in Jamrud and Landikotal tehsils of Khyber Agency.

Agency Surgeon Dr Sameen Jan told The Express Tribune the polio workers went on a boycott after a health department official was killed on Friday by unidentified gunmen in Naye Abadi, Jamrud during the vaccination drive.

Dr Jan further said a meeting was held between health department officials, political administration officials and Jamrud Assistant Political Agent Jehangir Azam Wazir and the polio workers were assured they would be provided foolproof security.

The workers’ efforts against polio were appreciated and APA Wazir and other political administration officials participated in the drive by administering polio drops to children.
